RCN Corporation has chosen the BigBand Broadband Multimedia-Service Router 1200 to deliver its all-digital television, data and voice services in Eastern areas of the United States. Those areas include Boston, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia/Eastern Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
“BigBand’s BMR platform enables us to convert to an all-digital environment, reclaiming our analog spectrum to free up bandwidth, so we can provide our customers with an exciting expansion of quality programming content,” said Rick Swiderski, Vice President of Engineering with RCN.
The conversion to an all-digital network will allow RCN to improve its picture quality and provide 75 High-Definition (HD) channels along with 300 Standard-Definition (SD) channels to residents and businesses in those market areas.
