The LG BD300 Blu-ray Disc/Netflix compatible player is now available in stores. Broadcom boasted today the BCM7440 Blu-ray Disc system-on-a-chip solution as LG’s choice for the BD300, the first Netflix ready Blu-ray Disc player on the market. The BD300 delivers 1080p, PIP, multi-channel audio and BD-Live support.
Perhaps recent Blu-ray player price drops have influenced the MSRP of the LG BD300, because it was originally set to be priced at $399 but has launched at under $350. The player is available now from BestBuy at $349 and Circuit City at $369. Amazon has yet to drop the price, as it is still sits at $399. Free Netflix trials seem to accompany the purchase of the player.
“We are very pleased to have been able to deliver the world’s first Netflix ready Blu-ray Disc player on our silicon platform,” said Dan Eiref, VP/GM of Broadcom’s Consumer Electronics. He added, “Consumers can now instantly watch movies and TV episodes from Netflix via the Internet on the LG BD300 player.
The cheers are well deserved however Netflix does not stream HD content yet. So there you have a machine that is built for HD downloads but the service not able to provide them yet. Maybe this is what Santa will bring Netflix this Christmas?
