Microsoft today announced plans to partner with Netflix to offer high-definition (HD) content via Xbox Live. The partnership will make available what they call the world’s largest online library of on-demand high-definition TV shows and movies, numbered at over 10,000.
Netflix subscribers will be able to instantly stream content from Netflix to their television via
the Xbox 360 console. The service will be available at no additional costs to Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix subscribers.
Titles can be added from within the Netflix website. Once the titles are in the queue they will appear on the Xbox connected television and can be watched as quickly as within 30 seconds. Using the Xbox 360 controller, viewers can also pause, rewind and fast-forward content.
Xbox LIVE Primetime will also offer gamers a collection of virtual game shows in which users can become contestants in their own living rooms. An example of the game shows is “1 vs. 100”, created by Endemol.
Xbox LIVE Primetime is available in North America, France, Germany and the U.K.
