Discovery Network launched Planet Green HD yesterday on Time Warner Cable. What the company calls “the first eco-lifestyle” HD channel, has evolved from the Discovery Home Channel. The high-definition channel is now available to customers in San Antonio, according to an article from the San Antonio Business Journal. The HD channel will also be launched in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island next Wednesday on June 11.
Planet Green HD will lean towards offering “Ecotainment” shows, hosted by network celebrities like Emeril Lagasse and Tom Brokaw. The network will initially repeat an eight hour block of programming, and can be found on channel 140.
“We’re going to be the channel you turn to and the company you turn if you want to know what’s happening in terms of saving the environment,” Discovery Communications senior vice president of affiliate marketing Mike Snyder said in a Multichannel News article last summer.
Although the high-definition version of the show is only available to Time Warner customers, the standard-definition version is slated to appear on satellite networks DISH and DIRECTV, and cable network Comcast. Stay tuned for more updates on the high-definition availability of this new channel.
