Comstar launches HDTV in Russia/CIS

comstarComstar, a leading telecom company in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), announced today a soft-launch of high-definition (HDTV) services. The soft-launch will last until June of 2008, and provides four TV channels providing HD programming.

Discovery HD, MelodyZen, Luxe TV and Voom HD will be available to subscribers, as well as 10 films using VOD services. Once the service is fully launched, customers will be offered a variety of plans that include high-speed internet (speeds from 1 Mbit to 10 Mbits) and IP-TV.

Sergey Pridantsev, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comstar UTS said, “The Moscow broadband market has reached an advanced stage of development. Today, our subscribers are interested not only in access to high speeds, but also in exciting and high-quality content.”
