Pioneer to cease small plasma production

Pioneer_PRO950HD_42Reuters reported Pioneer plans to stop making their smaller 42-inch plasma panels. Instead they will hand off smaller display production to Matsushita Electric or Hitachi, and focus on 50-inch and larger panels.

Pioneer currently makes several 42-inch plasma models including the PDP-4280HD, the PDP-427CMX, and the PRO950HD PureVision HDTV. Production will end at the Kagoshima plant in southern Japan by March 2009.
