Blu-ray site hacked!

In case you have already heard, the Blu-ray website was hacked last Friday. The hack lasted 2 hours, as visitors were sent to the rival HD DVD website. According to BDA, it was noticed within an hour, and repaired within another hour.

Did users thing some kind of buy-out happened? Did HD DVD make an overnight deal with Blu-ray to purchase their technology? You might have thought so. Or, you may have thought there was foul play involved.

How have things gotten so ugly? Are proponents of each format so passionate they need to hijack websites? BestBuy lists HD DVD as having only 398 titles compared to Blu-ray with 457 titles. But is this any reason to play so dirty? Or was this just a prank?
