Slim prospects for good Blu-ray releases this week, with only a few standouts amongst the bunch. Criterion is here, of course, but there’s nothing that could be called a must-own title for HD… though your opinion may vary especially if you like fine acting (and schlock) in high-def.
DirecTV will expand its local HD service next month with the addition of 16 new markets. The additions will bring their total local HD markets up to 155, covering more than 97-percent of U.S. TV households. Major networks ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC will be offered to customers where available.
Panasonic has announced it will bundle (by mail) Blu-ray 3D copies of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Coraline with the purchase of a Viera VT25 3D plasma TV. Those who purchase the 3D TV can get the Blu-ray Discs via mail-in rebate form until July 10, 2010. (A short window considering the release date of the 3D sets.)
