This week is a big week for not only new Blu-ray releases but new 4k titles as well. Scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 27 are five new Ultra HD Blu-ray movies — three of them also releasing to Limited Edition SteelBooks from Best Buy. Here’s a look at what will be hitting shelves on 4k Blu-ray this week.
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Apocalypse Now: Final Cut will be available in a 4-disc edition with three cuts of the film: The Final Cut (183 minutes), Redux Extended Cut (202 minutes), and Theatrical Version (153 minutes) as well as new and previously-released bonus material. Over 11 months and 2,700 hours were spent on cleaning and restoring the film’s 300,173 frames which were scanned from the original negative for the first time. And, the soundtrack was also upgraded to Dolby Atmos for an immersive sound experience engineered for home viewing. The 40th Anniversary Edition includes one UHD BD, three Blu-rays, and Digital Copy. Stand By Me (1986)
Rob Reiner’s Oscar-nominated Stand By Me was rescanned in 4k and remastered for Ultra HD Blu-ray. The film is presented in 2160p at 1.85:1 aspect ratio with High Dynamic Range using the HDR10 spec. And, the new 4k edition features an upgraded Dolby Atmos soundtrack with new bonus material including never-before-seen deleted scenes and alternate scenes. You should note this edition does not appear to include a Digital Copy — although we have not seen the back insert or slipcover to confirm. Order Now
The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019)
The Secret Life of Pets 2 on 4k Blu-ray supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HDR10+ — the improvement to HDR10 that provides scene-by-scene metadata for dynamic color range (there are just over a dozen UHD BD titles that support HDR10+). Along with the standard release, there’s also a Limited Edition SteelBook from Best Buy. The soundtrack is provided in Dolby Atmos (English) and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 (French and Spanish). And, the 2-disc edition includes over 80 minutes of bonus material and a Digital Copy. Order Now
