It’s been two years since Amazon gave the green light to a new series based on the character Jack Ryan created by Tom Clancy. Finally, the first season composed of 8 episodes will premiere on Prime Video this coming Friday, Aug. 31.
The series presents a younger Jack Ryan played by John Krasinski, former goofball at The Office and now action film star, producer and director, as the CIA analyst who gets thrown on a dangerous assignment involving a global terrorist plot.
Abbie Cornish (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Wendell Pierce (The Wire), and Oscar-winner Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People) also star in the series.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan streams in 4k Ultra HD with High Dynamic Range. The sound is provided in Dolby Atmos, the first series we know of to offer the object-based audio format on Prime Video. (Read: How to stream Prime Video in 4k/HDR)
Jack Ryan has been portrayed in several films including The Hunt for Red October (1990), Patriot Games (1992), Clear and Present Danger (1994), The Sum of All Fears (2002), and the latest in the franchise Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014).
“Our customers will enjoy a compelling adaptation of the action-packed spy thriller book series, further raising the bar for the quality level of storytelling that has made Prime Video a leading destination for content,” said Roy Price, Head of Amazon Studios.
Even before premiering, the Prime Original series co-produced by Paramount and Skydance Television, has already been renewed for a second, 8-episode season arriving next year.
