In case you missed it, Amazon has removed Twitch Prime from the list of benefits of being a Prime member. Starting Sept. 14, ad-free viewing will no longer be available for new members.
Current Twitch Prime members will still get ad-free viewing until Oct. 15, but if you really want to extend that benefit as long as possible the trick is to upgrade to an annual subscription before Sept. 14, 2018.
If not, Amazon-owned Twitch wants you to sign up for Twitch Turbo, a monthly subscription program that costs $8.99 per month. The subscription includes benefits like an expanded emoticon set, custom chat username colors, chat badge, priority customer support, and extended broadcast storage.
For the record, other benefits included with Twitch Prime like monthly channel subs, monthly games and loot, and chat badges are not going away.
Twitch users are pissed, and have voiced their opinions on the social web. Here are a few quotes from the Twitch Blog.
So.. basically you’re removing best prime function? Amazing. – Ani Psy
What the hell is wrong with you guys? Are you okay? – Starving Poet
I’d rather have ad free viewing than the “$1,000 worth of games and loot” I never use. – Snook
What about you? Will you be renewing your Prime membership as a result of this announcement?
