Smart Downloads is a Netflix app feature now available on Android devices that automatically deletes a previously-watched episode then downloads the following episode to your device. The nice thing is that the new episode won’t take up any more precious space on your phone or tablet because the previous episode no longer uses that space.
However, if you want to keep previously-watched episodes for viewing later you can always turn off Smart Downloads in the app’s settings.
The other issue Netflix thankfully considered was the use of cellular data. According to the company the downloads will only happen when connected to Wi-Fi, although there may be some users with unlimited data plans who wish this wouldn’t be a restriction (Netflix, is there a workaround for this?)
The feature isn’t quite ready for Apple iOS devices, but you might expect an update in the near future.
“We know how annoying it can be to go through all your apps and delete files you no longer need; we also understand that when it comes to Netflix, the faster you can get to the next episode you want to watch, the better,” said Netflix in their Media Center.

Yeah this feature is really great. I download a lot of apps to watch on plane or when wifi isn’t available. Thanks for sharing the details.
