This month there are plenty of new 4k Blu-ray releases headed our way. Let’s take a look at some highlights followed by an extended list of all the Ultra HD Blu-ray titles we know about. Click on the title for more details about each release.
On Tuesday, June 5th the first season of Game of Thrones will release to Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc — all ten episodes having been upgraded to 4k with HDR with potential for deeper color depth. The extras are still only in HD but for ultra fans of the show with Ultra HD TVs this new 4k edition with Digital Copies is a must have.
June 12th will bring the most 4k Blu-ray releases in one week so far this year with a total of nine new titles to choose from. We suggest picking up Forrest Gump on Ultra HD Blu-ray, if you can, with an upgraded 4k/HDR image and new Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Warner Bros.’ Tomb Raider starring Alicia Vikander gets its first home media disc release and the 4k Blu-ray features the highly-desired Dolby combo with Dolby Vision (HDR) and Dolby Amos soundtrack. And, with a three month delay 2-time Oscar-winner film Darkest Hour gets a 4k Blu-ray edition after releasing to standard Blu-ray late February.
Mid-way through through the month on June 19th Pacific Rim Uprising will hit stores for the first time on both Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray, as well as an exclusive SteelBook edition from Best Buy SteelBook. And, Unsane from director Steven Soderbergh premieres on both Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Lastly, on June 26th actor/producer Tom Cruise rules the week with a new 4k Blu-ray release of Jack Reacher, as well as the entire ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise getting new Ultra HD Blu-ray releases with High Dynamic Range color.
