The entire ‘Mission: Impossible’ film franchise from Paramount Pictures has been slated for release to 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray on June 26, 2018. The 4k disc releases anticipate the premiere of MI:6 titled Mission: Impossible – Fallout, opening in theaters this summer on July 27.
The Ultra HD Blu-ray editions of of the MI films will all be presented in 4k (2160p) resolution with HDR (High Dynamic Range) color enhancements using HDR10. However, while we’ve learned Mission: Impossible and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol have been mastered in 4k, it’s not certain whether the remaining three films will be from new 4k transfers.
The master format of Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), however, was processed in 4k from DXL RAW (8k) and ARRIRAW (6.5l) source material.
Each ‘Mission: Impossible’ film will likely vary in audio formats, but the official Ultra HD Blu-ray specifications haven’t been released yet from Paramount Home Media so we’d just be guessing. It has been confirmed, however, that ‘Rogue Nation’ will feature a new remixed soundtrack for home theatres in Dolby Atmos.
The five MI franchise films include Mission: Impossible (1996), Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), Mission: Impossible 3 (2006), Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011), and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015). Mission: Impossible and Mission: Impossible 2 will be available in two-disc combo editions with 4k Blu-ray, Blu-ray and digital copies, while the remaining three titles Mission: Impossible 3, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation will be packaged in three-disc combo editions.
