Among this week’s new digital releases War for the Planet of the Apes is certainly the most anticipated, although who knows how many fans of the franchise will be waiting for the Blu-ray and 4k Blu-ray packaged editions that hit stores on Oct. 24. Now that it’s out, let’s take a look at details of War for the Planet of the Apes in digital formats.
Availability
Popular services where you can buy War for the Planet of the Apes in Digital HD and Digital SD include Amazon Video, Apple iTunes, Google Play, FandangoNow, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Video, Verizon FiOS On Demand, and Vudu. Unfortunately, the film doesn’t appear to be available in Digital UHD (Ultra HD) from any other service except for Apple, who is selling the 4k version with HDR for $19.99.
Bonus Material
Extras offered with the digital purchase of War for the Planet of the Apes include deleted scenes, scene comparisons, and six featurettes: “Waging War for the Planet of the Apes,” “All About Caesar,” “WETA: Pushing Boundaries,” “Music for Apes,” “Apes: The Meaning of it All,” and “The Apes Saga: An Homage”. Apple, Fandango, Sony PlayStation, Vudu, and Xbox all include bonus material, which may vary slightly depending on vendor. Those extras are also included on the Blu-ray release late October.
Vudu is offering their disc-and-digital offer with both the Digital HD copy and Blu-ray Disc edition of the film for $19.99 — a great deal considering you get the benefit of the early release of War for the Planet of the Apes and the Blu-ray disc edition when available.
4k UHD
From what we can tell Apple iTunes is the only service selling War for the Planet of the Apes in Digital UHD (4k), which includes HDR specifications that will presumably work on iPhones and iPads that support the color enhancements.
Price
Most popular video services are selling War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) Digital SD for $17,99 and Digital HD for $19.99, although FandangoNow and Sony have both resolutions priced the same at $19.99.
