Today, Dolby announced the opening of their 100th Dolby Cinema today at AMC South Bay Galleria 16 in Redondo Beach, California.
Dolby Cinema utilizes Dolby Vision and the Dolby Vision projection system to deliver high dynamic range (HDR) images with enhanced color depth and expanded contrast ratio.
The images are backed by the immersive Dolby Atmos audio format in which sound moves around the theater, including overhead, to bring the audience a more real experience.
“It is very gratifying to see top filmmakers and industry creatives whose first choice is to showcase their work in Dolby Cinema,” said Doug Darrow, Senior Vice President, Cinema Business Group, Dolby Laboratories.
He added, “Movie lovers around the world are hungry for a truly immersive experience with state-of-the-art images and sound that make them feel like they are inside the story.”
In the US, AMC plans to open 160 Dolby Cinema locations by the end of 2018 with 77 existing theaters.
Last month, the company announced their 100th title in Dolby will be Warner Bros. Pictures’ Horse Soldiers. Other titles to be released in Dolby Cinema include Warner Bros. Pictures’ Dunkirk (July 21, 2017), Twentieth Century Fox’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle (Sept. 22, 2017), and Columbia Pictures’ Flatliners (September 29, 2017) among others.
In home media, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the latest Ultra HD Blu-ray disc to be confirmed to have both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technology.
