Best Buy’s Memorial Day Sale Includes $359 Toshiba 4k TV

toshiba-chromecast-4k-tvBest Buy is having their yearly Memorial Day sale with quite a few good deals in electronics. One of the “doorbuster” items advertised is a 49″ Toshiba 4k Ultra HD TV for just $349. The TV is normally priced $449, making the deal a $100 savings. Here’s what you should know, however, before running down to BB to get this Toshiba.

$449 is already a very low price for a 49″ UHD TV. A Samsung or Sony model at that size will cost you upwards of $750. But the Toshiba is missing a few core features you should know about.

First, this TV does not support HDR (High Dynamic Range) color, which has become the new standard of excellence in both UHD displays and content formatted in 4k. Second, the audio only supports DTS Studio Sound (no Dolby Digital Plus); but if you’re connecting to a sound system this doesn’t matter. Third, the refresh rate is only 60Hz, which is a lot less than most 4k TVs that also support 3D. This TV does not support 3D.

Lastly, being less a ding and more of a bonus, this is a Chromecast TV. You’ll likely want to download the Google Cast app to cast content from compatible mobile devices. And, the TV is compatible with Google Home powered by the Google Assistant, making it easier to integrate into the Google ecosystem.

Other TV deals advertised by Best Buy include a 55″ Samsung Curved 4k TV for $799 (List: $999), and a 60″ Samsung LED TV for $599 (List: $699). However, neither TV supports HDR. If you are willing to spend a bit more, they do a 65″ Sony 4k LED TV with HDR for $1,799.99 (List: $1,999).

On the cheap side, the Best Buy Memorial Sale offers a 32″ Insignia 720p Roku TV for $149 (List: $179), a 40″ Sharp 1080p TV for $219 (List: $249), and a 50″ Westinghouse 1080p TV for $299 (List: $349).

Other big discounts on electronics worth mentioning include a LG 2.1-Channel Soundbar with wireless subwoofer for $179 (List: $279), the Sony Blu-ray player (BDP-S3700) with Wi-Fi for $69 (Reg. $89), Beats Studio over-the-ear wireless headphones for $199 (List: $379), and a Nikon D3400 DSLR Camera Kit with two lenses for $499 (List: $899).
