From Imagine Entertainment the new documentary/fictional mini-series “Mars”: premieres tonight on National Geographic Channel. The show combines both real, factual information about Mars with a story that takes place in 2033 when the first humans attempt to land on the planet.
The documentary components of “Mars” include interviews with author Andy Weir who wrote the novel “The Martian” that became a motion picture, Elon Musk who founded current-day space exploration program SpaceX, and NASA astronauts and experts.
Intertwined with a fictional narrative, “Mars” will take us into the future when the first space crew to attempt to land on the planet is faced with the reality they may never make it there, never mind back to Earth. The series stars Alberto Ammann, Ben Cotton, Kata Sarbó, and Nicholas Wittman in all six epsiodes.
The 1-hour, 6-episode season of “Mars” will debut with Episode 1 titled “Novo Mundo” at 9:00 PM ET/PT, 8:00 p.m. CT on National Geographic Channel. The channel broadcasts in either 720p (US) or 1080i (Int.) HD resolutions at 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.
For viewers in the Eastern Time zone the show will almost go head-to-head with Monday Night Football that starts at 8:30 p.m. ET — of course there’s always DVR.
The premiere of the series coincides with 20th Century Fox’s release of “The Martian VR Experience” for HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. The $19.99 virtual reality experience releases on Tuesday, Nov. 15th.
