The list of Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc titles keeps growing, as more and more 4k titles release day-and-date with Blu-ray and DVD. This week there are five new UHD BD titles to check out, but the majority of them have already been available to purchase in 1080p.
Jupiter Ascending
The sci-fi Jupiter Ascending (2015) from Warner Bros. starring Channing Tatum stars Mila Kunis was already released to Blu-ray and DVD in June, but now an Ultra HD Blu-ray edition of the film can be purchased that features 4k video with HDR (High Dynamic Range) color range. The 2-disc edition also includes a standard Blu-ray copy and Digital HD copy. Price: $29.99
X-men: First Class
X-men: First Class is the fourth movie in the X-Men franchise (if you also include X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)) that stars continuing X-Men actors James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender among others. The standard Blu-ray, of course, was released several years ago. But a new 2-disc Ultra HD Blu-ray edition is now available that includes a Digital HD copy and HDR color range (indicated by the Ultra HD Premium sticker). Price: $27.99
Pacific Rim
Warner Bros.’ Pacific Rim (2013) is yet another re-release of a film to Ultra HD Blu-ray. Along with 4k video enhanced with HDR, the disc also features Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks. Price: $44.95
The Great Gatsby
Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby (2013) is now available in 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray. The release from Warner Home Video features HDR video for deeper color range and contrast, but unfortunately for audiophiles includes the same 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack from the Blu-ray release. 1080p Blu-ray and Digital HD copies are also included in the 2-disc edition. Price: $29.99
X-men: Apocalypse
Finally, 20th Century Fox’s X-men: Apocalypse hits shelves on 4k day-and-date with the Blu-ray and DVD editions, following an early Digital HD release. The film in Ultra HD features HDR video (as indicated by the Ultra HD Premium sticker) along with Dolby Atmos audio backed by Dolby TrueHD 7.1 for audio systems that don’t support it. Price: $24.99
