Attendees at San Diego Comic-Con were the first ones to see the official first trailer for DC’s Wonder Woman slated for release almost a year from now on June 2, 2017. The trailer has had over 15 million views already on Warner Bros. Pictures’ YouTube channel alone, and is available to stream in up to 1080p video resolution.
Wonder Woman is being directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster) and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright. The trailer from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment reveals the studios’ attempts at making Wonder Woman (the film) both an action flick and comedy, with cheeky lines that just don’t seem to fit with the somewhat dark undertones of the visuals and soundtrack.
Wonder Woman: “I have no father. I was brought to life by Zeus.”
Steve Trevor: “Well that’s neat.”
Lines like that one from Trevor (played by Chris Pine) just seem out of place and we’re hoping DC and Warner will make some adjustments to the final theatrical edit before next summer. Yes, we want action and drama and all the things that made Wonder Woman a classic superhero. But no, we don’t want dumb one-liners that are just plain awkward when juxtaposed with intense battle scenes shown in the trailer.
Keep Wonder Woman bad-ass and this movie might not jump the shark like other comic book-inspired featured films (e.g.: Fantastic Four, Elektra, Catwoman, etc.).
