5 Early Digital Movie Releases for the Holidays

This week we’re taking a look at some new digital releases that are available for the holidays. As you may know, movies are sometimes released early to digital format weeks ahead of Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand. If you’re leaning towards a digital library over physical discs, and need some suggestions for the holidays, here are five movies that are available right now to download or stream from services like Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu, and Google Play.

The Martian

Ridley Scott’s highest grossing film The Martian is now available in Digital HD, three weeks before Blu-ray and DVD. And, some services such as iTunes and Vudu also include extra bonus with the digital purchase. The Martian is a great holiday film that stars Matt Damon as astronaut Mark Watney who accidentally gets left on Mars. Price $14.99 (HD/SD)

Hotel Transylvania 2

Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 2 is now available in Digital HD format, three weeks ahead of the Blu-ray release on January 12, 2016. The follow up to Hotel Transylvania (2012) once again stars Adam Sandler as Dracula and Selena Gomez as his half-vampire son Mavis. Price $17.99 (HD) $13.99 (SD)

A film for after the kids go to bed, Lionsgate’s action/drama Sicario starring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio Del Toro is now available in Digital HD. The release comes two weeks ahead of Blu-ray and DVD on January 2, 2016. Along with the feature film, extra bonus material is included with purchases from some services including iTunes and Vudu. Price $14.99 (HD/SD)

Universal’s blockbuster film Everest has been released to Digital HD about a month ahead of disc releases on January 19, 2015. In Everest , Icelandic film director Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband) tells the tale of a devastating snow storm that hits Mt. Everest climbers in May, 1996. Price $14.99 (HD/SD)

The Intern

Nancy Meyers’ comedy The Intern starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway is now available early in Digital HD. In the film, 70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (De Niro) takes an internship at an online fashion store founded by Jules Ostin (Hathaway). Price $19.99 (HD) $14.99 (SD)
