It appears Sony is working on making PlayStation 2 titles backwards compatible with the PS4. Sony recently told Wired, “We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation.” However, that was the extent of the response from the company so we don’t know what other titles may be brought to the PS4.

The 500GB PlayStation 4 Star Wars Limited Edition Battlefront bundle already includes a package of classic Star Wars titles, including Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars: Racer Revenge and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter that apparently run under PS2 emulation on the PS4. Those titles can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store using one PSN code included in the bundle.

Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry has been covering the possibility of playing PS1 and PS2 games on the PlayStation 4. Running PlayStation 4’s PS2 emulator, the publication said “Overall impressions are positive – there’s little that can be done to improve the quality of 2D assets, but the improvements to the 3D side of things are welcome.”
