Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to release this coming Tuesday, March 24th on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and DVD. Although the film has already been released early to Digital HD, there are several disc editions and exclusives that we thought you should know about.
Both the Blu-ray Disc and DVD editions of ‘The Battle of the Five Armies’ include the special features “Recruiting the Five Armies,” “Completing Middle-Earth,” “The Last Goodbye Music Video,” and “New Zealand: Home of Middle-Earth – Part 3.” And, digital copies of the film are provided through UltraViolet partners.
With a total run time of 144 minutes, this Tuesday’s home media release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is the theatrical cut of the film. The extended edition of ‘The Battle of the Five Armies’ will most likely be released in the summer, 2015.
Blu-ray Disc Combo Pack

If you’ve got a 3D TV you’ll most certainly want to pick up the Blu-ray 3D combo pack for a few bucks more. The 5-disc edition contains four Blu-ray Discs (two of them in Blu-ray 3D), one DVD, and Digital HD copy with UltraViolet. Best Price: $27.99.
DVD Two-Disc Special Edition
The standard DVD release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is labeled a Special Edition with two discs and Digital SD Copy. It also contains the bonus features mentioned above. Best Price: $14.99.
Target Exclusive LEGO Minifigures
Target has partnered with LEGO to release this special exclusive edition of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Like the common Blu-ray edition, the combo contains two Blu-ray Discs, one DVD, and a Digital HD copy of the film. But the Target exclusive also packages “Bard the Bowman” and exclusive “Bain” Minigures, making this one of the more desired exclusives. The edition is priced at $25.99.
Best Buy Exclusive Steelbook Edition
Best Buy will release a Steelbook edition of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The exclusive edition contains two Blu-ray discs, one DVD, and a Digital HD copy with UltraViolet. List: $27.99 Price: $24.99 (Currently sold out online.)
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies on Blu-ray Disc is formatted in 1080p video with 2.40:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtrack.
