Michael Bay melts down during Samsung CES press briefing

Director Michael Bay turned into his own kind of transformer Monday during Samsung’s news conference at CES 2014—the embarrassing kind. While appearing on stage with Samsung Executive Vice President Joe Stinziano to tout the company’s new 105-inch curved UHD TV, Bay and his teleprompter just did not go well together. After a few awkward seconds of fumbling that must’ve felt like hours to Bay, the Transformers director walked off stage.

Check it out:

Later in the day, Bay copped to the meltdown on his blog:

“Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES – I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP’s intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down – then I walked off. I guess live shows aren’t my thing.”

The commenters on Bay’s blog ranged from the sympathetic:

“Anxiety attacks can hit anyone anytime, regardless of who you are. They are awful!! He may feel he embarrassed himself but what he really did was let those millions of people know that they are not alone when anxiety strikes.”

To the harsh:

“Sad that a set of messages in prepared remarks were not so well understood by you as a spokesperson that you couldn’t vamp from your heart about the product without a prompter and now have to resort to this wimpy endorsement on your blog. Did you phone in your prep? Also sad that as a Director, you don’t even know your own shortcomings as a stage talent that you embarrass yourself and your partner. Or did your ego get the better of you when they asked and you couldn’t say no?”

On the bright side, Bay will probably be a billionaire by age 60, so there’s always that.
