Paramount has released Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 5 to Blu-ray Disc today, along with Star Trek: The Next Generation – Unification, the epic epic two-part episode that features Leonard Nimoy as Spock. Much like the previously-released TNG seasons to Blu-ray, Season 5 includes a wonderful 7-channel soundtrack in 24-bit, 48kHz DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1. The boxed set includes all 26 episodes of the series that aired from 1991 to 1992, digitally re-mastered to 1080p resolution for Blu-ray Disc. By the way, if you want to listen to the original broadcast audio you can forgo the newly remastered 7-channel audio in the disc setup.
Paramount has also released the 86-minute feature length presentation of Episodes 7 and 8 of Season 5 titled “Unification I” and “Unification II.” In the two-part episode, Picard and Data are on a mission to find Spock (played by Leonard Nimoy), and find him in Romulan space on a personal mission to unify Vulcan and Romulans. The 1-Disc edition from Paramount also includes a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtrack, with 1080p video pressed to a BD25 and presented in a special slip case.
