Paramount has revealed the package art for Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD releases of Star Trek Into Darkness. The film has been available to pre-order for a few months, but until now we haven’t know exactly what the packaging will look like.
What’s interesting is Paramount chose to make the artwork for the Blu-ray 3D and standard Blu-ray editions very different. The standard Blu-ray edition features Kirk, Spock, Uhura, and Khan on the cover, but the 3D edition has only the starship Enterprise plunging to Earth. (Not that we’re complaining.) The DVD is variation of the standard Blu-ray with the addition of Bones and Scotty.
The Blu-ray 3D edition of Star Trek Into Darkness is a three-disc set with two BDs and one DVD, while the standard Blu-ray has just one BD and one DVD. Both feature Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel surround sound coupled with 1080p video formatted in MPEG-4. And, both Blu-ray editions include UltraViolet and Digital Copies.
Star Trek Into Darkness on Blu-ray Disc and DVD hits stores September 10, 2013. For those of you who can’t wait, the film will be available to download digitally two weeks before on August 20.
