It’s been a frequently heard rumor, but we’re hearing it again: Microsoft plans to do away with MS Points. This time it’s The Verge reporting that Microsoft is ready to ditch the often times confusing and frustrating Points system and replace it with a typical gift card method. The cards would be similar Apple’s iTunes vouchers or Sony’s PlayStation Network cards, allowing Xbox owners to purchase true currency to be used to download content.
The new system would reportedly also work for the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store. The Verge expects Microsoft to make the announcement as soon as the E3 gaming expo, with a planned launch for later this year when the new Xbox is expected to hit store shelves.
