Paramount’s Oscar-winning film Top Gun will release to Blu-ray 3D on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The film was re-mastered from the original negatives and converted to 3D for the release on Blu-ray, following a six-day run in select IMAX 3D theaters starting on Friday, Feb. 8. The Top Gun Limited 3D Edition is packed with 3D and 2D Blu-ray discs, Digital Copy, and UltraViolet code. The BDs are formatted in high-def 1080p with English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD and subtitles in French, Spanish and Portuguese. Included with the re-mastered film are extras such as a six-part documentary, behind-the-scenes footage, several featurettes, interviews, music videos, and commentaries. Top Gun has been previously released on Blu-ray, however, this will be the first time the film is available in 3D. Suggested retail price for Top Gun Limited 3D Edition is $29.99. Amazon currently has it to pre-order for $19.96.
Top Gun (1986) was directed by Tony Scott and stars Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis and Val Kilmer. The soundtrack won an Academy Award in 1987 for Best Music, Original Song for “Take My Breathe Away.” The film earned a worldwide box office of over $350 million.
