Amazon’s Prime Instant Watch service may not be overthrowing Netflix here in North America anytime soon, but across the pond their LOVEFiLM service has reached a milestone two million subscribers. The service which offers streaming video as well as DVD, Blu-ray, and video game disc rentals had a strong fourth quarter in 2011, the fast growing quarter since 2009. LOVEFiLM is also now offering a streaming-only service (just like Netflix), for an intro price of GBP4.99 per month. Check out the LOVEFiLM website if you want at http://www.lovefilm.com — but unless you’ve got a UK address you won’t be able to sign up for free trial. Note to Amazon: Why not drop the Prime Instant Watch service and open up LOVEFiLM in the U.S.? Well, maybe it’s not as easy as it sounds.

Netflix needs to freshen up its database because I know approximately 80% of their movies and the 20% that I do not, have very low ratings are are most likely not worth watching..You know what I actually started doing? I began recording Netflix streaming movies that I enjoy wathcing and would like to be able to watch a 2nd time (should they ever be taken out; and btw, if you ever need to do something like that, I can recommend you this Audials One or Audials Tunebite soft: http://audials.com/en/how_to_record_stream_capture_music_videos_movies_from/netflix.html). It’s sad, they ought to do something about their library otherwise I don’t think many people are going to stick with their service. And Lovefilm, at this moment looks very appealing, not to mention that there are others out there that have recently announced they are going to open up a movie streaming service. Makes you consider your options, rihgt?
