Amazon’s LOVEFILM in the UK has signed a multi-year contract with Sony Pictures Television which gives the company streaming distribution rights to new and upcoming titles. Starting in June, 2012 movies such as “The Social Network” and TV shows such as “Spectacular Spider-Man” will be available to stream to PCs, game consoles, iPads, and other internet-connected devices. Among other new films Sony Pictures’ “Arthur Christmas” will fall into the pay window — giving LOVEFILM subscribers access to stream the recently released movie.
LOVEFILM recently secured agreements with Warner Bros., Entertainment One, STUDIOCANAL, Disney, Momentum and Lionsgate for UK distribution. The company was already providing Sony Pictures Television titles to customers on disc via postal mail.
“The number of recent high profile deals we have secured means we are able to keep expanding the service, offering our members high quality films and TV and the ability to watch as much as they want for one low monthly price,” said Simon Calver, Chief Executive of Amazon’s LOVEFiLM.
