What do you get when you cross the BBC’s “Doctor Who” TV series (2005) with the French art film “Amélie” (2001)? A blockbuster-free week for Blu-ray releases, but one not without some titles worth checking out. “Boyz ‘N The Hood” (1991) is director John Singleton’s first film that also put Ice Cube on the Hollywood map – accomplished actors Laurence Fishburne and Cuba Gooding Jr. also star in the film. “Bridget Jones’s Diary” (2001) is an entertaining chic-flic starring Renée Zellweger who was nominated for Best Actress. Two vintage black and white films get high-def treatment from Criterion Collection including “The Music Room” (1959) and “Beauty and the Beast” (1946). And, you can get your Van Damme fix with “Nowhere to Run” (1993) where Claude plays an escaped convict who saves a family from ruthless land developers.
