Netflix has acquired distribution rights to all four seasons of “Mad Men,” the company announced yesterday, and will begin streaming episodes on July 27, 2011. The four seasons of the award-winning TV show are currently available to rent in disc format only on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
The multiyear syndication deal will extend up to seven seasons of the show. Lionsgate recently announced a three-year agreement with creator Matthew Weiner to continue developing the show. AMC is expected to continue broadcasting the show throughout the seventh season.
“Mad Men has been and continues to be a representation of TV at its best and Netflix is proud to be the syndication home for this acclaimed series,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix.
Canadians with Netflix streaming accounts are already able to watch the first four seasons of “Mad Men” under a separate distribution agreement.
No word yet on whether or not the television episodes will be provided in HD or only in standard-definition quality.
