DirecTV to add HBO and Cinemax HD on demand

DirecTV will soon add HBO and Cinemax in high-definition to their video-on-demand library. TVPredictions reported recently that the premium channels had been missing from DirecTV’s VOD lineup but were added in standard definition earlier this week. The on-demand titles, which will include movies, documentaries and episodes from HBO original series will be available in HD starting the first quarter of 2011.

DirecTV original series include “Entourage,” “Deadwood,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and “Bored to Death” among others. The upcoming original series “Damages” starring Glenn Close, Rose Byrne and Ted Danson wll premiere on January 5, 2011 at 10PM Eastern. Another HBO original series, “Game of Thrones,” will premiere in April, 2011.

Some of DirecTV’s video-on-demand HD titles available in 1080p this month include “Ramona and Beezus,” “Knight and Day Extended Edition,” “Going the Distance” and “Oceans.”
