We can’t get enough HD! This fall there are several high-definition channels scheduled to launch in the U.S., including two channels owned by Sony Pictures Television: Sony Movie Channel (previously referred to as Sony Pictures Movies HD)Â and Fearnet HD (currently available on-demand). Both HD channels are expected to launch Oct. 1, 2010.
For kids, PBS Kids Sprout HD is expected to launch September 1, 2010. The channel is currently available in standard-definition and on-demand through DirecTV, AT&T, and most cable networks.
Encore HD (West Coast feed) is supposed to launch sometime mid 2010. The channel will be a simulcast of Encore HD East Coast which can already be found on DirecTV, Dish Network, Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-verse and most cable networks.
Finally, ReelzChannel HD launched this month, but has not been picked up by any service providers yet. The channel is a 720p version of ReelzChannel which has been available on DirecTV (Ch. 238) and Dish Network (Ch. 299) in standard-definition. The network will shift to an all HD MPEG-4 feed this fall.
