Comcast, MGM launches VOD action channel

Cable television provider Comcast will be rolling out a new action based VOD channel with studio MGM this week, The Associated Press reports. The channel named “Impact” will have 20-30 titles every month featuring action movies and TV shows. MGM will pull titles from its 1,000+ library of action films and shows.

Some action movies in the MGM franchise include James Bond films like A View to a Kill and Die Another Day, as well as Rocky, Escape from New York and RoboCop. The films on “Impact” will be grouped into categories that include thrillers, crime, war films, martial arts, westerns and espionage.

The titles on “Impact” will mostly be free, and will appeal to a men’s audience aged 18 to 49. No word on whether or not the channel will be offered in HD.

Comcast has already launched a genre specific channel called FEARnet, which features horror films and thrillers in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television and Lionsgate. It should be mentioned that FEARnet is already available on mobile phones.
