DISH to carry two HD Olympics dedicated channels

DISH Network announced earlier this week it would add two HD (High-Definition) channels dedicated to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In an agreement with NBCU, The NBC Olympic Soccer Channel (Ch. 99) and NBC Olympic Basketball Channel (Ch. 98) will carry the Olympics coverage 24-hrs a day during the games.

DISH will also be able to offer VOD (Video-On-Demand) content per the agreement. The NBC produced content, also available from other television providers, will allow DISH to offer subscribers over 800 hours of 2008 Olympics content.

Eric Sahl, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network. said, “Our more than 800 hours of NBC’s Olympic coverage demonstrates our ability to use our services to deliver live HD and recorded content, as well as daily highlights and recaps, to ensure our subscribers enjoy comprehensive coverage of the Games.”

DISH Network recently launched an additional 17 new HD channels nationwide. The satcaster now offers 114 HD channels, and is attempting to reach 150 HD channels by year’s end.
