Dell is offering a laptop with a Blu-ray Disc drive for less than $1000. The recent promotion from Dell is the latest from the PC manufacturer who seems eager to put high def capabilities in the hands of PC users. While Dell appears to offer Blu-ray disc drives on any of its laptops, the Inspiron 1525, if configured correctly, can be your for under $1000.
Other models including the 1420 and 1720 can also include Blu-ray drives at prices that vary according to configuration. The Blu-ray drive option seems to vary from about $200-$400 dollars.
The model being promoted, the Inspiron 1525, is a lightweight model that comes with an HDMI port for easy connectivity to HDTVs. The laptop comes standard with a 15.4-inch high definition widescreen display at 720p resolution.
Broadcom Media PC technology incorporated in Dell laptops with Blu-ray drives allows high definition playback to HDTVs and high definition monitors through the use of a built-in graphics accelerator located in a mini-cart slot.
