At the Hi-Def awards in Century City, Blu-ray’s James Bond film “Casino Royale” won for best live-action high definition DVD. But on the HD DVD side the comedy “Hot Fuzz” won. How can two films of different genres win the same award?
Other HD DVD films of note are the drama “The Departed”, and the action film “The Bourne Identity” which is a fantastic looking film. Shaun of the Dead is another great ’07 release, “The Complete Matrix Trilogy” and “Blood Diamond” also are amazing films. I’m not sure why “Close Encounters” won over “Matrix” for box set, or “Star Trek Original Series” for that matter. But it did. So I guess I should go buy it.
The board was right on with the quality of “Pirates of the Caribbean”, that IS a great looking film. Overall even better than “Batman Begins.”
Not sure about the audio quality of “Transformers”, but I hope it wasn’t as bad as the film. “300” is probably the best hi-def film of the year, and a partisan choice which I’m sure both sides will be happy about.
