Hollywoodland is released on HD DVD. This who-done-it tale of the death of Superman actor George Reeves gets an average of 3.5 stars out of 5 on the Amazon scale. But that’s it this week according to what is shipping on Amazon. HD DVD player owners can look forward to the release of The Departed next week.

On Blu-ray Disc, it’s gotta be a classic by now, Sly Stallone’s Rambo: First Blood. This 1982 release will look great in high definition, as ex-Green Beret John Rambo tears up the town. Tailer of Panama is a virtually unheard of spy film starring Geoffrey Rush and Pierce Brosnan. Watch a younger Kiefer Sutherland in the 1988 film Young Guns. Don’t forget that Jack Palance is in this film. (Jack Palance in hi def. Cool.) Christian Bale and Reese Witherspoon star in American Psycho, the film based on the novel of the same name. Double the terror with 5 times the resolution, Saw 2 is released. Don’t watch this one alone.

Alec Baldwin and Annete Bening star in the film Running with Scissors. This is a 2006 release that wasn’t commercialized. With a great cast this film is bound to be entertaining. And finally, a movie well worth transferring to Blu-ray, Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. I actually never “saw” this film but listened to it (don’t ask). The screen play was so well done that it was a great film without the visuals. I’ll look forward to picking this up and watching it for the first time in high definition.
