On Blu-ray, the Denzel Washington/Meryl Streep remake of “The Manchurian Candidate”. From Paramount, Mel Gibson stars in “We Were Soldiers”, a tale of the one of the most violent battles in the Vietnam warand the movie.
The arcade style no story “Alien vs. Predator” is now available. Another Denzel movie in hi def is released this week but this time with Meg Ryan, who stars as the first woman to be killed in combat in “Courage Under Fire”. Other releases include “The Guardian”, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, “Black Rain special collector’s edition”, “Saw III”, “Men of Honor”, and the 2005 “Casanova”, just one of 14 films of the same name.
HD DVD looks weak this week except for “Black Rain (Widescreen Special Collector’s Edition)”, directed by Ridley Scott, starring Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia, which is also released on Blu-ray this same week.
Last year’s surprise film “Brokeback Mountain” (Combo HD DVD/DVD), is “out” in Combo HD DVD/DVD. This format is for people who are thinking about buying an HD DVD player, but are maybe waiting for the prices to drop. But when they do drop they’ll be ready to rewatch their favorites in HD DVD, if the dog hasn’t chewed up the disc by then. Other titles include “Alice Cooper: Live at Montreux 2005” and “Toto: 25th Anniversary Live in Amsterdam” but I really have no idea why I would want to watch those nevermind have them on HD DVD.
