Netflix has officially launched a streaming-only plan in the U.S. for $7.99 a month, after offering the same service in Canada last September. The company says they are now “primarily a streaming video company” and will invest more money into acquiring streaming licenses rather than DVD.
Netflix also announced they would increase the cost of the combination unlimited internet/1 DVD-by-mail plan by one dollar to $9.99 in January, as well as increase all other higher tier plans. For example, 2 DVDs out at a time will increase from $13.99 to $14.99, and 3 DVDs out at a time will increase from $16.99 to $19.99. (See Netflix graphic below.)
The additional $2 for Blu-ray Disc rentals will stay the same. And, the limited one 1 DVD with a max of two DVDs per month plan will also still stay the same at $4.99.
