Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance original series premiering on Friday, August 30. The first season will consist of ten 30-minute episodes and will likely be presented in 4k/HDR given the quality of the camera the series was shot on (a $50k RED Weapon 8K Super 35mm). You can also get an idea of the high-quality production of the show just from the teaser footage.
The series was created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews featuring an incredible fan-favorite cast (with several Game of Thrones actors) including Hannah John-Kamen (Game of Thrones, Ant-Man and the Wasp), Caitriona Balfe (Outlander), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), Eddie Izzard, Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible), Jason Isaacs (Black Hawk Down), Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Theo James (Divergent) and Helena Bonham Carter (Les Misérables, Harry Potter) among many others.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance serves as a prequel to the 1982 animated puppet film The Dark Crystal (available in 4k Ultra HD) written by Jim Henson and directed by Henson and Frank Oz. The movie was nominated for a BAFTA Award (Best Special Visual Effects) and we fully expect the Netflix animated series to also showcase some spectacular effects in filmmaking.
