If you tuned-in to the finale of Game of Thrones last night you could not have missed the teaser trailer for the third season of Westworld.
From the teaser, Westworld really looks like a new show with obvious inspiration from Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. But is it reality or another world the corporation has created to live out members’ fantasies? If so, it looks vastly different than the western environment in Season One and Season Two.
In addition, there are no signs of former key cast members Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Thandie Newton, and Ed Harris, although they are listed in the upcoming 2020 season on IMDB.
“Sometimes it seems like the world looks alright, like they put a coat of paint on it. But inside it’s rotting to pieces.”
Instead, the teaser focuses on new cast member Aaron Paul (from Breaking Bad) whose character might remind you of “K” (played by Ryan Gosling) in Blade Runner 2049. Paul’s unnamed character is first depicted as a working class “Joe” — a construction worker or repairman — but then appears to get involved in the complex layers of this new world in which he’s looking for something or someone “real.”
Considering their flagship series Game of Thrones ended last night, HBO has been looking for another series to “wear the crown.” Westworld could be that show, but we’ll have to wait until 2020 to find out.
