It’s the first week in June and plenty of new Blu-ray Discs to choose from. Here are our highlights for the week followed by an extended list below.
Avatar – The Last Airbender: The Complete Series is currently one of the best selling new Blu-ray Disc releases, now available in a 9-disc edition with a total runtime of 1464 minutes. The upscaled 1080p video is encoded in MPEG-4 (AVC) with a English soundtrack in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Each “Book” contains the episodes and special bonus features.
HBO’s Game of Thrones is available for the first time in 4k resolution on Ultra HD Blu-ray with the release of Season 1. The ten episodes include color enhancements with High Dynamic Range (HDR10 & Dolby Vision) and audio offered in Dolby Atmos (backed by Dolby TrueHD 7.1). Unfortunately the previously-released bonus material is only available in 1080p — but you’ve probably already seen the extras anyway :)
And, Paramount Home Media has released South Park: The Complete Twenty-First Season with all ten episodes from the latest season in a 2-disc Blu-ray set with a total runtime of 223 minutes. Extras include never-before-seen deleted scenes, season commentary by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and #SocialCommentary on all episodes (exclusive to the Blu-ray edition).
