Oscar-nominated drama Sicario just felt like one of those one-off films that could not be replicated. But to our surprise Sony Pictures just released the first trailer for a sequel, and what else can you say but it looks very, very promising.
“Day of the Soldado,” which translates from Spanish to English as “Day of the Soldier,” takes viewers back to the drug war on the US-Mexico border, but in this scenario crime cartels have started trafficking terrorists into the US.
The sequel was written by Taylor Sheridan (Sicario), who won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay (Hell or High Water) in 2017.
The movie brings back Benicio Del Toro as the mysterious Alejandro Gillick and Josh Brolin as special task force leader Matt Graver. Isabela Moner, Catherine Keener and Matthew Modine are also among the cast members in this Rated R film led by Italian director Stefano Sollima.
Sicario, Day of the Soldado premieres in US theaters on June 29, 2018.
