If you’ve never heard of the female wrestler Ruth Wilder, that’s because she’s a fictional character created by Nurse Jackie-producer Liz Flahive for the new Netflix original GLOW. The new series is based on the 80’s show GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling in which the wrestlers portray heroes or villains to create dramatic, action-packed wrestling events.
In Netflix’s GLOW, a bunch of Hollywood failures turn to women’s wrestling to find the spotlight. The series launches in full on June 23rd with all ten episodes that star Ellen Wong, Britt Baron,Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Rebekka Johnson among others (now don’t those already sound like wrestler names?).
Flahive (Homeland, Nurse Jackie) executive produces the series along with Carly Mensch (Orange is the New Black, Nurse Jackie), Jenji Kohan (Orange is the New Black, Weeds) and Tara Herrmann (Orange is the New Black).
