“A lot can happen, in the middle of nowhere” is the subtext written on the cover of the 20th Anniversary Steelbook Edition of the 2x Oscar-winning film Fargo. The movie, written and directed by the Coen brothers, opened in 2006 and was celebrated for its acting, cinematography, film editing, directing, and screenwriting, with nominations for an additional 5 Oscars on top of the two it won.
The Steelbook Edition from Shout! Factory comes slightly late for a 20th anniversary, unless you are adding twenty years from the 2007 Academy Awards, but nevertheless is a handsomely-packaged edition that will apparently be limited to 10,000 copies.
Special features don’t appear to be any different than the remastered Blu-ray edition released in 2014 from MGM, with audio commentary from Director of Photography Roger A. Deakins, the featurette “Minnesota Nice,” an interview with the Coen Brothers and Frances McDormand, still photo gallery, and original trailer and TV spot.
Technical specs will likely be the same as the 2014 release with 1080p video at 1.85:1 aspect ratio with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack. (We’ll update you if we hear any different.) The Fargo 20th Anniversary Edition also includes English SDH subtitles.
The single-disc Fargo 20th Anniversary Steelbook Edition carries an MSRP of $22.97.
