Google Play is one of the few places you can purchase or rent movies in Digital UHD, and their library has been slowly growing as it becomes more commonplace to watch content in 4k. Like Vudu, the service recently added Warner Bros.’ hit film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, selling for $29.99 in UHD.
Google Play sells and rents movies in UHD, with most popular titles priced at $29.99 and renting for $7.99 to $9.99. But not all titles are available to either rent or purchase.
Allied, Arrival, and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back can be rented only for $7.99, while Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Live By Night, and Sing can be purchased for $29.99.
Recently-released Collateral Beauty and The Accountant are available to either rent ($9.99) or purchase ($29.99), two of the few titles on Google Play with both options.
To be honest, there are a lot of titles on Google Play in UHD that you would never consider watching never mind purchasing in 4k. But they do have a good selection of blockbusters and award-winning films that you can check out in this full list.
UHD content from Google Play can be viewed through the Chromecast Ultra streaming media player on select UHD Android TVs. Google suggests a minimal internet speed of 15Mbps, otherwise the stream will be lowered to HD.
