LG has officially announced availability of their new “gram 15″ laptop that’s half the weight of competing 15″ models. If you’re someone who likes using a larger screen, but doesn’t like to carry around a heavy chassis, the gram 15 solves both requisites.
The new LG 15.6″ laptop model, which comes with either an Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processor, weighs just 2.2 pounds. Compare that base weight to Apple’s mid-2015 Macbook Pro that weighs 4.49 lbs, Dell’s Inspiron 15 5000 Series (non-touch) that weighs 5.40lbs, or Toshiba’s 15.6″ Tecra Z50 laptop at 4.6 lbs.
Samsung’s 15″ Notebook 9, however, is only slightly heavier at 2.9 lbs.
The price of the LG gram 15 is competitive with the 15″ laptop models above, with the exception of the Macbook Pro that’s much more expensive. The suggested price of the gram 15 with Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage is $1,099. The gram 15 with Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, and 512GB of storage is $1,499.
The laptop features a .7-inch thin profile, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a USB-C port, USB 3.0, micro-USB and micro-SD slots, and HDMI port.
The gram 15 builds upon LG’s existing lineup of 13″ and 14” lightweight laptop models.
Here’s a breakdown of the two gram 15 models available at Amazon, B&H, Fry’s, and other select electronics dealers.
