American Sniper was one of the top grossing films of 2014, so it’s no surprise that retailers have partnered with Warner Bros. on the home media release of the movie. Best Buy, Target, and Walmart each have their own exclusive Blu-ray editions available for pre-order. Other films that have had exclusive editions from retailers in the last year include Interstellar, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, and Transformers: Age Of Extinction. American Sniper has already been released to Digital HD format, but for those of us that still enjoy packaged media and all the extra bonus material, here’s a look at the various Blu-ray editions releasing on Tuesday, May 19.
American Sniper Blu-ray 2-Disc Edition
The common 2-disc Blu-ray combo edition of American Sniper from Warner Bros. comes with a Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and Digital HD copy redeemable through UltraViolet. Bonus material includes “One Soldier’s Story: The Journey of American Sniper,” and “The Making of American Sniper.” The Blu-ray is formatted in 1080p resolution at 2.40:1 aspect ratio. Audio is offered in English Dolby Atmos 7.1 channel surround sound. This is the edition you’ll find in most stores. Price: $24.99
American Sniper (Steelbook) (Blu-ray/DVD) – Target Exclusive
Target will release an exclusive Steelbook edition of American Sniper that comes in a special case. The nicely packaged 2-disc edition includes a Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and Digital HD copy, as well as the bonus material mentioned above. Price: $24.99
American Sniper (with InstaWatch from VUDU) – Walmart Exclusive
Walmart’s own edition of American Sniper will include access to watch the film via “InstaWatch” powered by Vudu. The 2-disc edition includes all the formats and bonus material as the common edition mentioned above. Price: $24.96
American Sniper “Only @ Best Buy” – Best Buy Exclusive
Best Buy’s exclusive “Only @ Best Buy” edition of American Sniper will contain bonus content that you can download via CinemaNow as a “Digital Download Add-On.” The 2-disc edition will contain all three formats of the film: Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and Digital HD copy, along with the bonus material included in the common edition. Price: $24.99
